So with the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/2012_phenomenon#Apocalypse\">predicted 2012 apocalypse<\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-size:15px;font-family:Arial;color:#000000;background-color:transparent;font-weight:normal;font-style:normal;font-variant:normal;text-decoration:none;vertical-align:baseline;\">  just around the corner I was interested to see what type of searches  this &ldquo;global event&rdquo; is drawing across Google worldwide. And what i found  may just make even the most skeptical reader think twice.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size:15px;font-family:Arial;color:#000000;background-color:transparent;font-weight:normal;font-style:normal;font-variant:normal;text-decoration:none;vertical-align:baseline;\">I started with a search for &ldquo;2012 Apocalypse&rdquo;. <\/span><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"600px;\" height=\"181px;\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/lh5.googleusercontent.com\/LXeauMEV5DuW7MHZrj-exvxfjhmfP-RzBA6MLA2GSRg8Vaxg_r7B38GsrYV9IRt-hhGsh4nvnS96C4U4Yfg1-kWQz3HJW8ZSH_wqCxojVEwGk7QWe7Tp\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\n<span style=\"font-size:15px;font-family:Arial;color:#000000;background-color:transparent;font-weight:normal;font-style:normal;font-variant:normal;text-decoration:none;vertical-align:baseline;\">As  you can see there are very little searches on the subject until 2008  with the peak searches happening now. This makes sense because as 21st  December 2012 draws ever closer then interest in this topic will peak.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size:15px;font-family:Arial;color:#000000;background-color:transparent;font-weight:normal;font-style:normal;font-variant:normal;text-decoration:none;vertical-align:baseline;\">The spike in Nov 2009 marked <\/span><span style=\"font-size:15px;font-family:Arial;color:#0000ff;background-color:transparent;font-weight:bold;font-style:normal;font-variant:normal;text-decoration:none;vertical-align:baseline;\">F<\/span><span style=\"font-size:15px;font-family:Arial;color:#000000;background-color:transparent;font-weight:normal;font-style:normal;font-variant:normal;text-decoration:none;vertical-align:baseline;\"> is when Roland Emmerichs apocalyptic movie 2012 was released.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size:15px;font-family:Arial;color:#000000;background-color:transparent;font-weight:normal;font-style:normal;font-variant:normal;text-decoration:none;vertical-align:baseline;\">The spike in June 2012 marked <\/span><span style=\"font-size:15px;font-family:Arial;color:#0000ff;background-color:transparent;font-weight:bold;font-style:normal;font-variant:normal;text-decoration:none;vertical-align:baseline;\">A<\/span><span style=\"font-size:15px;font-family:Arial;color:#000000;background-color:transparent;font-weight:normal;font-style:normal;font-variant:normal;text-decoration:none;vertical-align:baseline;\">  is from several reports across Miami, Florida of cannibalistic killings  that were originally reported to be zombie-like attacks.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size:15px;font-family:Arial;color:#000000;background-color:transparent;font-weight:normal;font-style:normal;font-variant:normal;text-decoration:none;vertical-align:baseline;\">Zombie-like attacks?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size:15px;font-family:Arial;color:#000000;background-color:transparent;font-weight:normal;font-style:normal;font-variant:normal;text-decoration:none;vertical-align:baseline;\">So  I then searched for &ldquo;Zombie Apocalypse&rdquo; and overlayed the findings in  red on the previous search for &ldquo;2012 apocalypse&rdquo; in blue.<\/span><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"600px;\" height=\"220px;\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/lh6.googleusercontent.com\/ysqSzVy73q5ZI1qCJRb5U02J1UFphzVUcdeQS5MFVw8GlyA1_DAh27DFOKyudj5NBa-nDHmcooLyhyOd39HDqN057i6Z70Y4DIM2TjJlL_HDkdSkqa9h\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\n<span style=\"font-size:15px;font-family:Arial;color:#000000;background-color:transparent;font-weight:normal;font-style:normal;font-variant:normal;text-decoration:none;vertical-align:baseline;\">Now  we can see there is a massive spike in searches for &ldquo;zombie apocalypse&rdquo;  during June 2012 in which searches peak for this term. This confirms  that people were searching on Google for news related to the zombie-like  attacks. &nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size:15px;font-family:Arial;color:#000000;background-color:transparent;font-weight:bold;font-style:normal;font-variant:normal;text-decoration:none;vertical-align:baseline;\">Now this is the scary part&#8230;.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size:15px;font-family:Arial;color:#000000;background-color:transparent;font-weight:normal;font-style:normal;font-variant:normal;text-decoration:none;vertical-align:baseline;\">If  you are reading this article and wondering how on earth a mass spike in  searches could signify the end of the world then read on&#8230;.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size:15px;font-family:Arial;color:#000000;background-color:transparent;font-weight:normal;font-style:normal;font-variant:normal;text-decoration:none;vertical-align:baseline;\">Google  Insights for Search also offer the option to upload your own data. The  CDC (Centre for Disease Control) are one the many authorities that  contribute to this data. The following image captures in red searches  across Google US for &ldquo;symptoms of flu&rdquo; compared to the data in blue  which is reported cases of &ldquo;influenza-like illnesses&rdquo; as uploaded by the  CDC.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\n<img decoding=\"async\" width=\"600px;\" height=\"394px;\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/lh5.googleusercontent.com\/Ze8KTuFeV-D-ZlJbKJA-mcZ6jPAZqZR3Py9mFwIBZbakBpwBuQiGXBUrc6Q5GwBwePGhzj7cDIw05OCOKIZ1IOt1jtv7MuOgWfV-pmPmbtMVNQZhKMIg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\n<span style=\"font-size:15px;font-family:Arial;color:#000000;background-color:transparent;font-weight:normal;font-style:normal;font-variant:normal;text-decoration:none;vertical-align:baseline;\">You  can see from this graph that the data provided for the actual recorded  cases of influenza is very close to the amount of searches on Google US  for the &ldquo;symptoms of flu&rdquo;.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size:15px;font-family:Arial;color:#000000;background-color:transparent;font-weight:normal;font-style:normal;font-variant:normal;text-decoration:none;vertical-align:baseline;\">This makes sense.
