A little bit about our beginings
Silkstream's founder, Leigh Mason, worked within the print and publishing industry for over 10 years. Leigh actively partook in the progression of electronic publishing; linotype and the revolution of desktop publishing (DTP):
In January 1984, Apple Computer launched the Macintosh, the first mass-market computer with mouse and graphical user interface. The following year, the Aldus Corporation released PageMaker 1.0, developed for the new Macintosh, the software provided sophisticated page layout tools and the capability to output text and graphics to high-resolution PostScript printers. A facility to design and publish documents was now available to the masses and with it came the DTP revolution.
Around 1995 the World Wide Web had gained some momentum with the use of the Mosaic web browser and DTP took a new direction in the shape of web page design. Leigh was an early adopter of web page design and was inspired by the technology that surounded it.
In 2003, after honing his skills and receiving a first-class honours degree in Software Development, Silkstream was born. Born from a desire to provide companies with a plain-speaking, honest and cost-effective web design and development service - consious of not taking a 'technology for technology's sake' approach.
After 18 months our team grew out of our small (cosy) home-office and relocated to new offices at Stock Road, within Southend, Essex. Having outgrown the premises (again) in 2007, we moved to one of Southend's premier professional districts. In 2011 we moved to our current location at The Maltings, Rochford.
Since 2003 we've been active participants in the rapid growth of the web and all the new-fangled trends that come with it. Amongst the head-spinning pace of change one thing has remained constant; our commitment to providing customers with a supreme service, based upon our experience, skill-set and desire to surpass their expectations.
