Generally, the term 'broadband' refers to data communications where a wide band of frequencies are available to transmit information. When signals are transmitted, such as a voice signal over the telephone network, they are normally broadcast within a specific range. e.g 0 - 3000 Hz or cycles per second (Frequency is the number of complete cycles per second in alternating current direction).
Because a wide band of frequencies are available, many types of information can be streamed or multiplexed and sent on many different frequencies or channels within the band concurrently, allowing more information to be transmitted in a given amount of time.
